Reimagining Math Education for Marginalized Learners
At Seda Educational Consulting, LLC, we believe that traditional math instruction is failing our marginalized math learners—and we know it doesn't have to. Many students believe their struggles in math are a reflection of their intelligence, opting out of opportunities to learn rather than risk looking “dumb.” Coupled with systemic barriers like over-reliance on grades and test scores, these perceptions uphold sorting mechanisms that disproportionately limit access to STEM careers and economic mobility for underserved students.
The data underscores the urgency: marginalized students consistently underachieve in mathematics. Early math skills are not only critical for academic success but also predict college attainment, job quality, and long-term financial stability.
Seda Educational Consulting partners with school leaders to address these challenges by:
• Empowering leaders to guide equitable math instruction, even if their personal math journeys have been marked by trauma or anxiety.
• Bringing stakeholders together—students, caregivers, educators, and administrators—to align on effective, culturally relevant math teaching practices.
• Coaching principals on how to support teachers in building confidence and success in their classrooms.
• Offering tools to navigate teacher frustrations and challenges around curriculum implementation and student outcomes.
